The horizon draws us and eludes us in equal measure. To know and be known is a wide open frontier. Close connection is a mix of empathy and nearness, vertigo and vastness.
Responding to spontaneous voluntary interactions with generous, curious animal collaborators, my work explores multi-species empathy, animal cognition, personality and individuality, and concepts of invitation, initiation, and trespass. My photographs, writing, videos, and installations consider shared thresholds of experience, circulatory systems of rivers, trees, and biology, and the chimeric power of memory and longing. The plasticity of identity, of identification, shares borders—human and animal, light and dark, body and space.
